Island Adventures: Your Questions Answered
Everything you need to know about our guided island day trips and ferry excursions for active retirees in Ireland
Absolutely. Our Aran Islands walks come in three difficulty levels, so we've got routes for everyone. The easiest option is around 4-5 km with minimal elevation, focusing on village exploration and local history. You'll be with a small group and our guides adjust pace throughout the day, so you're never rushed.
Spring and autumn are peak migration seasons—you'll see rare species passing through. September and October are particularly special, with warblers, flycatchers, and occasional Mediterranean vagrants. Summer's quieter but better for seabirds and choughs if you prefer calmer crowds.
Landing is possible but depends on sea conditions—weather determines access, not age or fitness. Our viewing cruises get you close enough to see the monastic settlement and beehive huts clearly through binoculars. If conditions allow landing, it's a steep 600-step climb, which we explain upfront so you can decide what works for you.
Ferry terminals vary—we provide detailed accessibility info before booking, including toilet facilities, seating areas, and step-free access where available. Island facilities on Aran and Cape Clear have improved significantly, with accessible viewpoints and rest areas. We help arrange assistance if needed and always scout locations ahead of your visit.
We don't include meals, but all our islands have cafés and shops. We recommend packing water and snacks for the walk, though the pace allows plenty of café stops. Our guides know the best local spots and can suggest what to bring based on your chosen route difficulty.
We offer flexible rescheduling for poor conditions—either move to a different date or choose an alternative route if weather affects just one location. Ferry services occasionally cancel in rough seas, and we'll help rebook with no extra charge. Your safety comes first, always.
